1. What is the duration and language of education?
The program lasts four years (eight semesters) and the language of education is Turkish.
2. Is there evening education or distance education?
No. Our department offers only formal daytime education. The practice-oriented structure of the program requires education to be conducted face to face in ateliers and application units.
3. Is there a preparatory class?
No. Since the language of education is Turkish, there is no compulsory foreign language preparatory class. Students begin their education directly in the first year.
4. On which campus is the department located?
Our department provides education within the Faculty of Applied Sciences at Marmara University, at the Dr. Mehmet Genç Campus (Kartal) on the Anatolian side of Istanbul. The campus is easily accessible by public transportation.
5. How is admission to the department carried out and with which score type?
Placement is based on the YKS results in the Equal Weight (EA) score type. Current minimum score and quota information is available each year in the ÖSYM guide and on YÖK Atlas.
6. Who can apply to the department?
The program is open to all candidates. The field of hair and beauty is a broad professional field for all students, both women and men.
7. From which program is vertical transfer (DGS) possible?
The main source is the Hair Care and Beauty Services associate degree program. The ÖSYM DGS guide is taken as the basis for the current list. The first admission of students through the DGS will take place in the 2027-2028 academic year.
8. Can associate degree graduates be placed in the department other than through the DGS?
Yes. Graduates of the Hair Care and Beauty Services associate degree program can also be placed in the department through the YKS. If they apply for exemption after registration, the department's adaptation committee may grant exemption for eligible courses taken during the associate degree.
9. Is there a separate quota for women over the age of 34?
No. Our department does not have a separate quota for female candidates over the age of 34. All candidates are placed within the general quota according to their YKS results in the relevant score type.
10. What is the difference between the department and hairdressing or beauty specialist courses?
The difference is the difference between skills training and disciplinary education. While courses and certificate programs teach the technique of specific applications, our department offers a four-year undergraduate education that restructures the profession on a foundation of scientific knowledge. In addition to practical skills, students acquire the theoretical and scientific infrastructure of the profession through courses such as skin science, cosmetic chemistry, hygiene and sterilization, basic design, service management, and research methods. In this way, our graduates become professionals who know not only how an application is performed but also the scientific rationale behind it, and who question and develop their field. Graduates receive not a certificate but a bachelor's degree, and can advance along a wide spectrum from specialization to management, from teaching to graduate education and an academic career.
11. How practice-oriented is the education?
The program is practice-oriented. From the first year onward, students work in ateliers and application units in conditions close to real professional settings.
12. Do students provide the materials used in practical courses?
Yes. The personal materials and products used in practical courses are provided by the students. At the beginning of each academic year, the list of materials to be obtained and related information is shared with students by the course instructors. These materials also form the basis of the personal equipment set that the student will use throughout their professional life.
13. Is workplace training (internship) compulsory?
Yes. Students gain professional experience through workplace training in the sector during their education.
14. Is a double major or minor possible?
Successful students may apply to double major or minor programs provided that they meet the relevant conditions.
15. Can students gain international experience?
Yes. Students can spend part of their education abroad through Erasmus+ study and internship mobility.
16. What title and diploma do graduates receive?
Graduates receive a bachelor's degree in Hair and Beauty Applications.
17. Can graduates open their own business?
Yes. Graduates can establish their own business in the field within the framework of the relevant legislation. The business management and entrepreneurship courses in the program also prepare students academically for this goal.
18. Can graduates become teachers?
They can be appointed as teachers in the field of Beauty Services / Beauty and Hair Care Services provided that they achieve a sufficient score in the MEB-AGS examination.
19. Is an academic career possible?
Yes. Graduates can continue to master's and doctoral programs and become academic staff members at higher education institutions.
