The Department of Hair and Beauty Applications was established within the Faculty of Applied Sciences at Marmara University by the decision of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) dated December 11, 2024. The department admitted its first students in the 2025-2026 academic year and began education at the undergraduate level.
The founding of the department rests on a strong foundation of collaboration that brings academia and the sector together. The department was brought to life within the framework of sectoral cooperation with the Hairdressers Association (Kuaförler Derneği) and on the basis of a protocol signed in this context. This partnership has connected education with the real needs and practical realities of the profession from the very first day, and has created a lasting and institutional foundation between academia and the professional organization.
Since its founding, the department has focused on three principles: a strong academic infrastructure, a modern and practice-oriented curriculum, and an educational approach fully integrated with the sector. Starting from its first year, the department has organized events bringing students together with leading figures of the sector, conducted applied workshops, and held meetings with invited experts. In this way, a living bridge between students and the sector was built even at the founding stage.
In a short time, the department has been advancing toward becoming not merely an educational unit but an academic center contributing to the institutionalization of the field in Türkiye. Scientific publication, curriculum development, cooperation with professional organizations, and international partnership initiatives are the cornerstones of this vision.
